I have a new background image today for this website. The other one I was using was a free background I found on the web. In surfing through farm and ranch blogs, I found several others using the same background. I wanted my site to be exclusive to me so I hired a custom design firm to create a new background for my website. That was three weeks ago and the project has yet to be started. I sent an email requesting a refund and telling them I no longer needed their service. I spent about 10- 12 hours today creating my own background in a style similar to what I had, but more in line with our hobby ranch.
The pictures flanking the edges are of old wood and peeling wallpaper inside homes in the town of Bodie, CA, a gold rush ghost town now being preserved by the park service in a state of arrested decay. They are trying to maintain it just as it was left but not let it decay completely. It is a fascinating place. The families literally walked away after dinner with food still on the tables. If you ever find yourself in Mono County, you simply must visit Bodie. Bring a warm coat even in the summer. The weather is brutal.
The boots play homage to my steel toed cowboy boots I wear when I am around the donkeys. Best $79.00 I ever spent! I may change the items on the table to coordinate with seasons and holidays. I am still tweaking the background but overall, I like it! It was a fun project for me. I hope you like it too.
It’s late and I am going to get some sleep. I too am in a state of arrested decay but it’s a losing battle!

Looks great, Mary! I like it…. alot! What boots are you talking about? I don’t see any boots.

I did it on a Mac and apparently many computers have smaller screens so the boots don’t show up! I am going to fix it tonight if I can stay awake.
