We have a forest fire, dubbed the Robbers Fire, burning out of control a few miles from our home. The Robbers fire is named after a turnout in the road overlooking the north fork of the American River. The site is known to local history buffs as Robbers’ Roost because it became a lookout for stagecoach robberies in Gold Rush days.
The fire is in it’s fifth day and only 10% contained. 1,952 fire personnel are working the Robbers Fire, which includes 160 engines, 62 crews, 36 bull dozers, 20 water tenders and 15 helicopters including five specially equipped Black Hawk helicopters and California National Guard personnel.

While we are not in immediate danger from the fire, the smoke around our house is terrible, making simple things like breathing dificult.
I think the animals are a bit freaked out as well by the smoke.
The Other Mary says
Mary, I hope they get it under control soon. Breathing the smoke can’t be healthy for man or beast.

I meant to add that to my post. Thanks for reminding me.
