Today was weigh-in day for Emu Eggs A, B, and C. I was nervous about this one. I had no reason to be because as of today, each egg has lost approximately 3.5% of it’s pre-incubation weight! I am taking that to mean that each egg has a chick developing inside. We are still a long way off from hatching live chicks but I am optimistic. Here are the weights from today.
Egg Starting Weight Current Weight Amount Lost Percentage
A 618.02 grams 598.17 grams 19.85 grams 3.2%
B 532.97 grams 513.13 grams 19.84 grams 3.7%
C 669.05 grams 646.37 grams 22.68 grams 3.4%
The boys are giddy with excitement.
A reader pointed out to me today that there is a discrepancy about where the eggs are incubating. I forgot to mention that I moved them from the incubator I made out of my wooden brooder into my Brinsea Octagon Advance Incubator. I realized that if I took the tray out, all three eggs fit perfectly. I feel much safer with them in there until time for hatch when they need to stand up. At that time, God willing and the creek don’t rise, I’ll move them back to the Brooderbator. In the meantime they will enjoy digital temperature and humidity control as well as auto-turning.
