Michael went scuba diving today at Folsom Lake. Emily and Amanda came over and we planted the summer garden. We should have gotten an earlier start but that’s another story. The temperature topped out at 90 degrees this afternnoon and plants were wilting fast.
Mandy and I planted while Emily followed us with the watering can.
Here’s what the garden looked like when we got done planting.
We used transplants for everything except carrots. I bought seven tomato plants and only one was labeled determinate or indeterminate. That mattered to me when it came to placement in the beds. We researched online and got the information. Mandy and I wondered what we would have done before we had the internet. I guess we would have looked it up in the encyclopedia or called the nursery. We were glad to have the internet. There was wonderful information about all our varieties including the heirlooms. I have not had much luck with heirloom tomatoes but I just can’t seem to stop trying. They are so very unique in color, flavor, and shape. Maybe this will be a good year for heirloom tomatoes.
We tried to take our picture with the self timer. Then we went swimming.
It was a fun day. I will love going out every morning to see what’s growing. I have a feeling it will be a jungle out there soon enough.

Thanks again girls. Everything looks healthy this morning. No signs of leeches. I’ll have to watch for the hot weather this afternoon.
I am excited to see how Daddy’s version of the topsy turvy tomato planter works out. I had insomnia a few nights ago and watched the infomercial. I almost ordered! But, I fell back asleep. Keep me posted.

Let us all know how the garden does. We will let you know how your Dad’s version of the topsy-turvy tomato planter does.

The girls wanted to tell you thanks again for letting them help today. They had fun spending the day gardening and swimming with you. I asked Mandy what she planted and she told me potatos, marigolds, onions, pumpkin, squash and leeches. I dont know how well a leech will grow in the garden I am sure a leek would grow much better. Let us know how they do.
