California lost four police officers yesterday in a senseless murder spree by a parolee in Oakland. Three men died and one remains on life support pending organ donation. I am especially sad and scared when officers lose their lives in the line of duty because my son is a peace officer. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families, friends, and fellow officers these men left behind.
Then I sat down to write my blog tonight and read that a plane carrying children from California to a ski vacation in Montana had crashed and all 17 people onboard perished. Twelve children are believed to be among the dead. How terribly sad. (Update Monday: the morning news lists 7 children and 7 adults on the plane.)
While we enjoyed another goofy day here at home, I just can’t seem to put the words together to write about it. It is hard to be funny when your heart aches. I’ll tell you about it tomorrow.
A couple of sweet things I can share from today are…
Emily got Banning to give her a high five, the new trick he learned yesterday.
And Amanda leaves in the morning for her 6th grade trip to Westminster Woods. Here she is saying goodbye to Aidan. Have a great time on your trip Mandy! Take lots of pics. (and wear your socks!)
Take care all, and say a prayer for the people who are hurting tonight.

Memorial Service
The memorial service was today for the fallen officers. The service was held at Oracle Arena. It was sad this morning to see all of the officers from around the state in their processions to pay their respects to the fellow officers who died in the line of duty. I understand there were officers from around the country as well as Canada here for this today. But I have to say it was nice at 6am to see that the freeways in all directions were backed up for miles with all of the people headed to also pay their respects. The gates didnt even open until 7:30. The arena held 19,000 people and they arranged for the overflow at the Oakland Coliseum. The live feed today was heartbreaking to think of the senseless loss of life. But is sure made me proud to see how many people respect the officers and the job they do.

Part of my prayers everyday are for others that have had tragedy enter their lives…. I like to keep up to date with the news, but it is so stressing everyday to listen to the news — most days I just don’t listen to the news. That is sad, but it’s something I just have to do and keep everyone in my prayers.
But on a happier note ~~ Banning will soon be able to entertain at the circus!! I just thought…. can goats rollover? Think of all the dog tricks, see if the goats can do it! They are very smart animals (e.g. shutting of electricity when it’s not wanted! LOL!), they should be able to learn quite a few tricks!
Have a safe trip, Mandy, and a wonderful time!!
Have a great day, Mary & Michael!
