My neighbor from across the street brought me a bag of Meyer lemons last night as a “thank you” for my giving them a dozen fresh eggs. I love Meyer lemons and even have a dwarf tree planted in the backyard. It is one of the trees the goats have been chewing on when they get out of their yard. It is coming back to life now though. Aren’t they pretty?
I spent the morning looking for lemon recipes and finally settled on a Lemon Curd tart. I had to go to Macy’s for a tart pan and managed to come back with a citrus juicer (manual), a gadget to scrape the membrane out of hot peppers, a spatula, and two boxes of K-cups for my Keurig coffee maker. I shouldn’t shop alone. Anyway, the tart pan is 10 inches, which is larger than the recipe calls for so I had to make a second batch of lemon curd. I finally have the crust in the oven and hope to finish this tart before bedtime. If it turns out good, I’ll post the recipe.
Now, on to the goats and chickens.
Emily and Amanda came by today to see the pink egg that Aunt Bee laid yesterday. Lo and behold, it turned light brown in the refrigerator overnight. Amanda was disappointed but shortly after they went home, Aunt Bee laid another pink egg. I emailed a picture of it to Amanda. Emily is 15, just passed Driver’s Ed, and couldn’t care less about pink eggs.
During her visit, Amanda went out back to see Aunt Bee for the first time. She came running back in yelling “Donovan’s in the tree, Donovan’s in the tree!” I grabbed the camera and we all ran out side and, yep, Donovan was in the tree.
His persistence finally paid off.
He did get down for raisins though.
Gotta’ go finish the lemon tart.
Update: The tart wasn’t a hit. The curd was too runny, the crust overcooked, and the cream wouldn’t whip. Tomorrow I will try a regular lemon pie. What else have I got to do?
Post Script:
Thelma and Louise have gotten huge in the week they have been here. And, they
have learned to roost on their perch. Aren’t they cute?

Mary, I don’t know if you still have some Meyer lemons left……
I had never heard of a Meyer lemon before you asked about a recipe, now tonight I ran across a blog making Meyer lemon scones! They looked scrumptious!! Here’s the blog link:

no runaway goats
Mom thanks for the biscuts this morning. They were great. We had them with, as Mandy calls them "cage free eggs" and sausage. I was just checking your blog to see the pic of Donovan in the tree. Can you have a talk with them all before the next trip and tell them I want no goats trying to escape via tree limbs and no chickens trying to fly the coop. I promise to be there twice a day with scratch and goat treats but want them to promise me they will be good in return. Mandy wants to know if there is another pink egg today?

I’m sorry the curd didn’t turn out, Mary 🙁 But you have a new tart pan!! and a juicer, and a gadget, and a few more things that had to be had!!! hehehe…
I wonder how high Donovan can climb? I am amazed at the personality of goats…… they’re such a small thing, but take on the grandest escapades!
Thelma & Louise look to be doing very good!! How is Aunt Bee getting along with everyone else now? Has everyone adjusted?
Have a happy Sunday 🙂
