Well, today we finally got the sunny day we have been waiting for. It started out o.k. I let the animals out so they could browse around the yard. Everything was going well, as you can see. The chickens were scratching and pecking. The goats were picking up sunflower seeds under the squirrel feeder. Ah, country life. But…
Then the boys decided to play around the pool and that’s when the mayhem started.
Banning and Donovan decided to get a drink out of the pool.
I hollered at them to get away from the pool. The next thing I knew they were both on the run. Donovan tried to jump the diving rock, missed and fell into the 8 foot deep end of the pool!
“OMG” I thought.
“Can goats swim?”
“There’s no time to Google it.”
“Am I attached enough emotionally to this goat to jump into 45 degree water to save him?”
“What if I pull him out and he’s not breathing?”
“Will I do CPR on a goat?”
“Didn’t they just revise the procedure to eliminate the mouth to mouth?”
I got myself together and saw that he was moving along the edge of the pool. So I reached down and grabbed his collar and yanked him out of the water. He rewarded my act of heroism by shaking pool water all over me, then walked away like PeeWee Herman in the I meant to do that scene.
Then all hell broke loose. All three goats started running around the pool like complete maniacs. I could not get them under control so I kept filling a bucket with water from the pool and throwing it on them. (I think I’ve mentioned that goats hate getting wet.)
Well, not today. They all looked like drowned rats. And gosh, have you ever smelled a wet goat or three? I don’t recommend it.
“POOL PARTY!”
