This year I planted an heirloom tomato variety called Mortgage Lifter, a large pink-red fleshed tomato, weighing at least a pound but capable of reaching 4-6 pounds. I harvested some of the last of those tomatoes today.
The largest tipped the scales at just under 2 pounds. I think that is pretty good for being planted late, in a small raised bed, watered automatically, and virtually ignored. Imagine the potential had they been cared for better. Next year I am going for a record. I may even give them a little fertilizer and pinch back the suckers. Or not.
Back to this year. This tomato was nearly as big as my head and, considering the size of my head, that is phenomenal. Here it is in my hand.
Half of one of the smaller tomatoes was enough for four cheeseburgers. I will enjoy a slice of tomato on a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch tomorrow.
If you are interested in how the Mortgage Lifter got its name, you can read about it HERE.

Wow, that is one huge tomato!
I picked some tomatoes, a bell pepper and 4 cucumbers today. I thought they were done, but apparently not.
