I know you’re out there.

July 19, 2012

I see you. I see your IP address and what pages you read. I see what search terms brought you here. I obsess over whether you are a spy bot and nobody really reads my blog except me. My stat page tells me that you are real and some of you come back every day to see what’s new. Some of you are friends from Backyard Chickens and some of you are strangers. I am just happy you are here. Bloggers live for the numbers. They sleep better if they get comments. I don’t sleep very well.

Today I launched a new FORUM section to see if I can draw any of you out of lurker status. I hope to get discussions going about animals, family, food, recipes, etc. If you have a favorite recipe I’d love to see it. I may even try it. If you think you can make a better version of one of my recipes bring it on. If you think your goats are cuter than my goats, prove it. If you have any donkey training tips, I’m all ears. You will need to register to post and as per our policy, we don’t track or store your data and we never give out your email address. So come out, come out, whoever you are and say hello.

I started blogging after I got sick and had to quit working. It was a way to fill my time and share my stories. Odd things happen to me and around me. Without co-workers to tell the stories to, it just didn’t seem the same. So I started blogging in order to tell my stories to some imaginary friends. Cyber friends if you will. When I make a great dinner I love to share the recipe and picture with my imaginary friends. I know some of you try my recipes and that makes me happy. I love people coming to our online store and buying rare and endangered chicks and hatching eggs. I love it when they write back and tell me about their hatch.

Miracles and Mayhem (at the Buck ‘n Run Ranch) is my way of connecting with people.  I read a lot about what makes a blog, a great blog. It needs to be tended for many hours each day like a garden. It needs to be interactive. It gives the reader the opportunity to be a part of the Miracles and Mayhem. I am sorry, they go hand-in-hand and you can’t have just one.  But I do hope that some of you come out of hiding and become participants. You don’t have to own chickens or emus to contribute.
I have lofty goals for Miracles and Mayhem at the Buck ‘n Run Ranch. I don’t have my heart set on taking down The Pioneer Woman. Ree’s blog gets 4.4 million unique visitors per month, with 23.3 million page views. The site is not particularly ad-heavy, yet her ad revenue for 2010 was “solidly one million” dollars (per the article). We’re not going there. My goal is to one day see Miracles and Mayhem at the Buck ‘n Run Ranch nominated in the Best Kept Secrets category of the Bloggy awards. I think that might be attainable if you, my friends keep coming back, interacting with us, and having fun.

Well Mom as you know…. I am real. As I have said for so long now I love reading what you write. I always get a good laugh at the crazy things that happen up there. I really wish you would put the camera’s up that you had at the other house. Could you imagine the stuff you would catch those animals doing if you had them. I know others here have said they are your biggest fan but I think I have that one all wrapped up. I am one who can always and will always say my mother has and always will be an amazing role model to me and one day I don’t know when but one day I WILL be able to make these recipes taste as amazing as when you make them. Love you Mom keep writing.

Thanks Nancy and Kristin! I am glad you enjoy the Miracles and Mayhem here on my blog. I have to give credit to the animals and Michael for providing the mayhem. I am preparing a blog post about Michael changing a tire on my scooter using a hatchet. People never get tired of that!

Mary I have been hooked on your stories on BYC and your blog ever since I read about Judge Judy, I still have difficulties with the new BYC format – I am not techno agile – so I still miss out on alot of things.

I do check daily at Stella’s social club. When my brain is really operating I remember to head to Buck n’ run ranch to see what else is cookin’.

The best draw for your blog is your great videos with music and/or narration. Keep it up.

I will try to figure out why you guys can’t register and I’ll post an update when I do. There are smilies although they are limited. You are supposed to be able to post pics too. We’ll see.

After reading this post I feel a bit shamed that I don’t leave comments more often. No bot here!

Oh my! This post gave me a good laugh, thinks. 🙂 Give it time, though. Building a good blog base takes time and devoted followers more than anything else. Continue to be unique and you will continue to attract a loyal following.
