Meet the newest addition to my flock of crested cream legbars.
This little cutie and another are the two eggs that hatched from six I ordered on ebay. The other chick is a male who will be staying only until his rooosterly behavior begins, then he will be going to a new home.
The cream legbar is an autosexing breed. The females bear a distinct chipmunk pattern and have eyeliner. The boys are more muted with a light dot on their heads. Better pictures to come when they fluff up more. Right now my flock consists of a cockerel and two pullets. I would like to have at least five more pullets. I have six more cream legbar eggs in the incubator, due to hatch on Monday. Cross your fingers for girls! I paid $96.00 for this first batch of six eggs. Three developed, one with lots of cracks in the shell which I covered with melted wax. It developed well but was a was a late quitter, probably in the last two days. I did an “eggtopsy “on the egg and the chick was a female. Three of the eggs never developed. So the female I am keeping comes in at $96.00! But guess what? A female chick from the importer of this breed costs $99! I saved $3.00 plus the cost of shipping!
