Sadly, we ended up being lousy pig farmers and have returned Prentiss and Petunia to the ranch where we bought them. The female is already re-sold and hopefully Prentiss will be going to a new home soon as well. I thought I had done my homework before buying the guinea hogs, but apparently I needed to dig deeper. I had no idea that little pigs like that would jump up on people, and in my case, knock them over. Even at 65 pounds, Prentiss is strong as an ox. When he jumped up on the backs of my knees, they buckled and down I went. A hit from the side sent my right knee buckling to the inside, necessitating a trip to imaging for an x-ray tomorrow. Reluctantly, we waved the white flag and the seller offered to take them back and re-sell them for us. Michael loaded them into the back of the Hummer yesterday and we drove them back from whence they came. I think Michael will miss them more than I will. He had a symbiotic relationship with the little porkers during our eleven days of pig farming. Go figure. But when faced with the option of me being in bed in a body cast versus upright grilling burgers, he came to his senses. I will actually miss them too but I would miss my right knee even more. Live well and be happy little pigs.

When I was a teenager, I milked my Uncle’s Jersey cows to make money for a horse. My cousin was in FFA and one year he had a bunch of pigs. He gave me their bucket of feed and told me to take it into their pen and put it in their trough. I got in there and here…they…came!!! Thank goodness I was fast – barely made it over the fence before they slammed into it. My cousin is laughing his fool head off… until I dumped the bucket of slop on his head!

So sorry that you had to rehome them. Are you going to find a different breed, or you are done with pigs?
