I fell asleep last night with my television on Channel 40 and woke up with it still on, except the program airing at that hour was Good Day Sacramento, a local morning news show. The first words I consciously heard were “Today is International Bacon Day.” In honor of International Bacon Day, they had live bacon cooking demonstrations. I mulled it around for a few minutes and decided that the Buck ‘n Run Ranch would also celebrate International Bacon Day. We would eat bacon all day and blog about International Bacon Day. I started the celebration by preparing a Tex-Mex Bacon and Cheddar Omelet with salsa and jalapeno peppers for breakfast.
I realized if I were to write a blog post about International Bacon Day; I needed to know more about it. When I googled “international bacon day,” it was shocking to find out that it is not today. It is in September! The only reference I found about International Bacon Day being today was a link to the Good Day Sacramento web page for today’s show. Are you kidding me? How could something like this happen? Good Day Sacramento is, first and foremost, a news show. Who researched this? Did one of the producers perhaps feel like having El Tocino in the Ocho? If I can not trust the accuracy of this story, can I actually believe that a car hit a fire hydrant during the night in Fair Oaks? I watch Good Day Sacramento every day, faithfully. Am I now to question that faith? Do I assume all others are wrong and that today is International Bacon Day? More importantly, should I just fry up some more bacon and let the party go on? I’m torn.
To be honest, I am not even much of a bacon fan. I am not a subscriber to the notion that everything is better with bacon. I do not own a bacon embellished tee shirt, have never tried bacon ice cream and have no bacon related tattoos. I can not even figure out how the obsession with all things bacon even started. I think it slipped in unnoticed between chipotle and cupcakes and was out of control before I knew it. I wish it would just slip away now. I will always love a good BLT or Cobb Salad but, even on my worst day, will I not be craving a bacon martini.
I am finished now. I need to go shoot off an email to Marianne McClary about the International Bacon Day debacle at Good Day Sacramento this morning. Marianne is as much a stickler for details as I am and I know she will get to the bottom of this.

The omelet looks so good. Why don't mine look like that when I make them.? I know everyone says I look just like you but I have to ask was I adopted because I got none of the artsy fartsy genes you have, none of the decorating ability you have and now I am convinced I dont have any of the cooking skills. Oh well I guess I have to practice practice practice. Happy New Year to you Mom love you
