I posted not long ago about my blind Buff Orpington chicken, Lucy. Her health and overall condition have been deteriorating and, in the last few days, she had stopped eating and drinking. I found her this morning standing in a corner with her head on the coop floor. I didn’t want her to die that way. I don’t know if she was in pain. Starvation and dehydration was not an option and hand feeding her failed days ago. I made the difficult decision to take her to the vet for humane euthanasia. Her life since being blinded has been a struggle and I wanted her death to be gentle. I will miss her most in the mornings when we always had a nice talk. She always waited for me to fill the metal feeder. She could find the food by the sound of the feed being poured in. Lately she stopped talking too. It was her time to go. Here is a photo of Lucy taken a few days after she came to live with us in 2008. You can read more about Lucy HERE.
