Donald and Daisy Duck, my adorable new baby white crested ducks have been living in a brooder in my office for three days. OMG, they made such a mess and stunk the place up. I have had baby chicks in here and emus for six weeks but I never smelled anything like two baby ducks! They had to move today. I have a little coop that is used for whatever we need it for at the time. It has housed broodies and new chicks, sick chickens, mean roosters, and baby fainting goats. It had now been converted to a duck house. I moved in into a corner of the covered chicken yard, cut the legs down so the ramp incline was lower, and installed the 25 watt red party light from their brooder. Now I am paranoid that they will be cold. If is supposed to go as low as 60 degrees tonight. I may switch it out for a heat lamp bulb. Anyway, I can worry about that when I finish this. I added a little fence to make a yard for them and it was all done! Just add water and ducks!
Donald took the first swim but Daisy got in a a bit later.
Here is the completed duck house and yard. When they get a bit older I will remove the fence and let them live with the chickens.
You can get an idea of how tiny they are in this picture.
The really like the area under the duck house. They probably feel protected there.
Blind Lucy stopped by to introduce herself and run into the new fence that wasn’t there this morning, thank you very much.
They were a little shy. They will get more comfortable as time goes by.
Did you know that ducks can choke on their food so water always has to be available when they eat?
I am not sure this is exactly as recommended but it worked for them!
My paranoia abut them chilling has reached a fever pitch. I must go outside and check on them. I will update tomorrow if the are still alive.

they are so cute.
