Honey Lake Sunday Race

May 5, 2009

If you haven’t seen the video I posted of the pass Buddy made to win the Sport Race, STOP what you are doing and go here. Scroll to the bottom to watch the video. Really, just do it. OK, thanks.

Saturday night at Honey Lake MX Park was something else. We were up at 3:30 in the morning with howling winds and rain. Amanda was scared (me too) so I stayed with the girls in the living room of the motorhome. We could hear things banging around outside and see flashing lights so we opened the blinds. On pit row, there were factory race rigs with their EZ Ups and awnings torn apart. The rig to the right of us had 3 EZ Up canopies on it roof. Lots of people were walking around with flashlights trying to help out. We watched for awhile and finally settled back down and went to sleep despite the storm.

We woke up to this.

Mayhem!

Freezing cold, fierce winds, and thunder storms!

But, before long, we were rewarded for our bravery during the storm with this.

RACE REPORT
The 70 cc Open Class started at 10:30. Coming off the line, Buddy saw himself in third place, behind Jacob and Travis.
It was a muddy mess out there as he chased Travis around the track.
He found an opportunity to pass on the straight-away coming out of the scoring chute and took it. The race was his from that point on.
Travis stayed on him, but it was Buddy who would cross the finish line in first place
Travis and Buddy congratulate each other on a hard fought race.
The gang all came over to our place for pancakes.
We watched Beau Baron win the 2 hour Pro Main Event.
Pro rider Tim Shelman, Mandy’s favorite rider, let her try out his quad.
We went to the awards presentation where Buddy got his first place trophy and Travis his second place.
Can you tell we’re proud of him?
Very much.
So with dirty feet and a bug splattered windshield we headed home to see the chickens and goats. I know they missed us!
