I was trying to watch Judge Judy in peace today when the sound of car horns blaring interrupted me. I looked out the window to see a couple of turkeys in the middle of the road. One had the other’s head in his mouth while they wrestled for control as a third egged them on. The people in the cars thought they could break it up by honking their horns. When that failed, they drove onto the soft shoulder to get around the fracas. I thought at least one car was going to get stuck in the mud, but they made it around. The turkeys never missed a beat. By the time I got a fresh battery in my camera, the fighting had spilled onto my driveway. They fought and shoved until they got through a thicket of rosemary bushes.
I still don’t know if it was a “fighting” thing or a “dating” thing, but it lasted for nearly an hour. They didn’t even have the common courtesy to wipe the blood off my white fence before retreating to continue the mêlée across the street. Turkeys fight dirty. If that’s what they were doing.
Please enjoy a little turkey action, caught on tape. I am hoping to catch the end of The People’s Court. Turkeys!
