Broodies and Babies

August 24, 2013

We went outside tonight to find the source of a lot of loud peeping. It was the Icelandic juveniles running amok. My old Welsummer girl, Chatty Cathy was trying to herd them into the coop for the night.

I sent her back to the coop and I took over. It didn’t take long with me in-charge.

Then we checked on the broodies and their babies.

Project girl with her Icelandic baby. It’s eyes are fine and it spent the day out in the run with mama. I am so relieved. This girl needed a baby to look after and get off the nest.

Lukka’s daughter DeeDee with her three Icelandic babies. This is a good example of why Icelandic enthusiasts say Icelandic’s are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get! See the one on the right? It took me on a wild goose chase through runs 3 to 5 and back again this morning. It was slipping through small openings in the fence corners. Tomorrow those areas will be filled with gravel!
