Last night Michael, Tucker, and I packed the Jeep and took the mile and a half trip from our house to watch fireworks. The gated community across the road from the ranchos where we live hosts a big fireworks display every July 4th. They detonate the ordinances over the lake. There is a vantage point not far from our home with a good view of the lake. This is our first year in this house so we had no idea that all the other rancho residents head to the same spot. By the time we got there, the best spots were taken but we found a nice space to set up the tripod to get some pics and video. Tucker went with us and he was a perfect gentlemen. He even met a few neighbors. He wasn’t spooked by the fireworks either, which was a big plus.
The show started an hour after sunset. Michael used the big Canon 1D Mark III with a 100-300mm zoom lens to shoot stills and I shot video with the Sony. When the show was over, we detoured to the mini mart for ice cream before heading home. This morning I downloaded the files to see what we got. Michael took some nice stills and my video was pretty good too, considering how far away from the action we were. Here’s my video and a few of Michael’s still shots.
