Yesterday, as I often do, I took out the leftover bread in the cupboard; stale hot dog buns, raisin bread heels, and no-longer-wonderful Wonder Bread. I cut them into small cubes and put them in the big red bowl. The big red bowl is very important at the Buck ‘n Run Ranch. It means that bread will rain from the sky. If you are a chicken, emu, or goat, all you need do is stand under the deck and treats will appear. When I open the sliding glass door, everyone looks to see if I have the big red bowl. If I don’t, they go back to their own business. If I do, pandemonium sets in. They position themselves like NFL receivers about to catch the ball for the Superbowl winning touchdown. I yell out to the Icelandics who have quite a distance to run or fly up to the house where bread rains down from above. The emus and goats are always on alert for the appearance of the big red bowl.
If you recall, I have a new camera. I love it, but it is not old lady friendly. The little text in the screen is not large enough for old lady eyes. I often have it in record mode when I think it is off and vice versa. This results in some interesting video clips as well as some missed opportunities. Yesterday as I left the kitchen with the big red bowl, I hung my camera around my neck and accidentally switched it to record. I captured some thrilling video of the big red bowl making it’s way to the deck and bread raining from the sky. Enjoy, or not.
