In November I saw a posting on Craigslist looking for a home for a Nigerian dwarf doe. The goat had been one of a herd of eight goats living in the foothills. The herd was attacked by a bear and all of the goats were killed except this goat. Her baby was one of the goats killed in the attack. The single surviving goat was being kept in a locked garage for safety. The owner was waiting for the federal trapper to come and find the bear and relocate it. In the meantime, she needed to re-home the doe, named Mona. I responded to the ad and the owner, Cindy chose us to take her goat. I picked her up the next morning and brought her home to live with us. She was still recovering from injuries suffered in the attack. You can see one of the wounds on her side in this picture.
We were given the green light to change her name and I chose the name Annie for her as it it means “joy.” I was hoping she would find joy here with us after all the sorrow.
She and Aidan were instant pals after an initial head butt.
Unfortunately, she and Ace did not get along well. Note the psycho look on his face.
The fighting got a little crazy over the next few days and we decided to keep Annie and find a new home for Ace. We were lucky to find a family with 18 acres of pasture and goats. They have a granddaughter who wanted her very own goat so Ace went to live with them. I hope everyone is happy. Ace was a screamer and although I miss him, the screaming was over the top!
Annie soon found that she likes Honey Buzzers for breakfast too!
She likes a orchard grass, shared with Aidan.
She likes to scratch under the balance beam.
But most of all, she likes Michael.
Hi Emily!
Annie likes getting in trouble with Aidan. Here they are discussing a plan to turn over the wheelbarrow.
Annie likes to sunbathe.
Some of the time.
So that’s Annie. She’s a sweet girl.
Most of the time!

I saw that craigslist ad! It is nice to know how the story ended. I stumbled across your site while trying to find a local (to Orangevale) person who has Nigerian’s. I look forward to exploring your site a little more!
