Incubation Update (Day 28 of 54)

December 18, 2011

It is weigh-in day for the emu eggs. They are almost exactly halfway through their incubation process and on target for proper weight loss. On Day 28 they should have lost 7.5% +/- 1.2%. That puts all three eggs in the correct range! I am getting quite excited. I am part of a emu egg hatch-along on Backyard Chickens and one of our teammates lost one today that pipped on the wrong end. I am used to dealing with tiny chicks that don’t hatch but I am not so sure about seeing a baby emu that didn’t make it. Maybe I’ll get some help from beginner’s luck. Stay tuned! Here’s today’s stats.

Egg         Starting Weight            Current Weight                Amount Lost                   Percentage

A              618.02 grams                578.33 grams                     39.69 grams                      6.4%

B              532.97  grams               496.12 grams                     36.85 grams                      6.9%

C              669.05 grams                623.69 grams                     45.36 grams                      6.8%
