Farm Focus Friday 5-2-2014

This is an exciting Friday for me. I am starting another food photography class, this time with guest instructor George Crudo. Today is the first day of the class. I am always excited when a new class starts then I obsess over the assignments and photo submissions. In case I get too obsessed I took a few farm photos a day or two in advance of Friday!

An olive egger, buff brahma, and cream legbar enjoy the sunshine in the layer’s coop.

 

 

 

I have bemoaned the fact that we haven’t seen any lupine this year. I thought maybe the drought was to blame. I was thrilled to see the first one this morning. Lupines are my favorite wild flower.

 

Bob and Bob, our resident Canada geese, did their morning fly over.

 

As usual, I looked skyward enjoying the beauty. It was only after taking the photos off my camera, did I see that Bob 2 was taking his morning potty break. I immediately realized that I had dodged a bullet but took a shower and washed my hair, just in case.

 

Then they had the nerve to land on the donkey shelter and raise heck.

 

 

By the way, I call all Canada geese “Bob.” I can’t tell them apart.

 

I think my sweet girl Laverne was smiling at me while eating her morning scoop of chicken scratch.

 

I stopped to check in on my broody marans. She has 11 days till hatch!

 

The girls are laying so many eggs these days!

 

Yesterday I put roosts in the new brooders. I checked in today and the chicks were all over them! This side of the brooder has Icelandic’s and a Welsummer pair in it.

 

 

This side contains Croad Langshans.

 

The volunteer maple shoots are coming up around the old stump. I still like it even though it’s not really a tree anymore.

 

I bought six tomato plants. They will go in the ground tomorrow! Please ignore my messy service porch counters. Everything gets dumped in there, but at least it doesn’t make it into the house.

 

The little birds outside my window are still working hard to feed the babies in the bird house.

 

As the sun came up this morning, it reflected the trees on the surface of the neighbor’s pond. It was gorgeous!

 

Anticipating being very busy for the next four weeks with my photography class, I have hired an assistant.

 

He is already getting on my nerves begging for a cookie. He may be unemployed by the time the first assignment is due!
