I have been working on a top secret chicken project for almost a year. My F1’s, or first generation chickens were looking good.
Three weeks ago the pullets started laying and I was thrilled with the egg color! I took the first dozen eggs that were laid and put them in the incubator. The girls have laid steadily and reliably ever since and provide the majority of our eating eggs.
Then, each day for the last two days, I got a white egg from my project pullets! What the heck is going on? My knowledge of chicken breed genetics is severely lacking and I am stumped.
Then, as if the white egg wasn’t enough, the first F2, or second generation chick hatched this morning. 
I’ll post updates as the rest of the eggs hatch. Until then, I am off to do some research!
Yeah, I am wondering too…why is the pot calling the kettle black? 🙂
My project F2s were “a variety pack!” I am thinking you may have that also. Is that okay with you, or do you want a consistent result?
I would like a consistent result but I am not sure where to go from here.
Do you know what genes are in the background of the original parents, to learn all the possible gene combinations that you may get?
I do. I think I need a chicken genetics consult. May have to give you a call!
