Louis, the sweetest of our four emus, has an injury. I noticed it a few days ago. It is a large hematoma and feather loss on his back. He seems to be acting perfectly normal despite his injury. Well, as perfectly normal as an emu is capable of acting. I am just watching him closely as it seems to be healing on it’s own. My real concern is how this happened. The skin is not broken and the feathers are already beginning to grow back. The bruise is still purple which tells me that at least that part of the injury is fairly new. I wonder if he is being pecked by the others or more likely, by Loca, the orneriest of the four.
An interesting thing about Louis is that he is in a committed relationship with Laverne, a fainting goat. They like old movies and long moonlight walks on the beach. I need to get some video because if ever there was a Jack Pratt and the Mrs., this is it!
Anyway, I think Lou will be fine. Here is a little video from the emu/goat pasture yesterday. No romance was documented but I’ll be watching for it.
